Candy Cane Day
Every Friday after Thanksgiving, you will find the Tunkhannock Rotary Club
at the Wal* Mart Store and Ames Plaza collecting donations for children. People
giving donations receive a candy cane. This event raises approximately $2,500
which is divided and given to Wyoming County Children and Youth, St Michael's
School, and Interfaith. These organizations purchase Christmas gifts for their
needy children.Invitational Track Meet

Each year we sponsor the Rotary Relay Invitational Track Meet The structure of this event is this year is Junior High Relays on Friday night
and no Senior High Events. This is a PIAA sanctioned meet. The athletes have a chance to run on the Martin Synthetic track, and their times are determined by a fully automatic timing system. All
the gate receipts are donated to the Special Olympics.
The date for the Spring 2010 meet will be Friday evening April
30th for the Junior High events (they will compete under the stadium lights). This meet will
be our 30th Annual Meet. Click here for further details or
here for an
application form. If you wish to submit an application, just print out the
form and send to the address indicated on the form. Leadership Training
Tunkhannock Rotary is involved in two programs that provide leadership
training .
The Leaders Camp is for 10th grade students. We try to
send at least one boy and one girl to these camps. There is a camp for boys
and a separate camp for girls. They learn to work as a team and have projects
they must accomplish. Various community leaders from all walks of life come to
these camps to provide insight into their profession.
The second leadership training is for young business people in our
community. RYLA (Rotary Young Leaders) is a weekend event providing seminars
on various leadership skills.

Fireworks
Tunkhannock Rotary sponsors the July 4th Fireworks display.
This event is well attended. The fireworks are set off in the area of the high
school football stadium. Using the stadium provides for excellent viewing of
this spectacular event. Our club raises $3,000 for this show that lights up the
sky.
Dictionary Project
Each year our club visits each of the elementary schools in the Tunkhannock Area School District and presents a dictionary to each third grade
student. This school year (2008/2009) we distributed approximately
240 dictionaries. To see a couple of photos of these enthusiastic
children, please click on either of the dictionary icons above.
Highway Cleanup
Every year during the month of April and again in October the
club gathers together and picks up the trash accumulated along the highway Route
6. Our next scheduled pickup is set for Saturday October 18th.
